Parents
- Students are ultimately responsible for their student account. Please encourage your student to understand the importance of this financial responsibility. By monitoring GWeb regularly students can be proactive and avoid multiple issues, such as administrative holds, late payment fees and finance charges.
- GW does not mail bills. Ask your student to set you up as an Authorized User to receive eBill notifications of any balance due.
- When reviewing the Cost of Attendance please keep in mind that this calculated amount is an estimate and the Student Account eBill will not reflect each of those items.
- Sign up for the Monthly Payment Plan as early as possible. By using this service, you can help divide your education costs into easy-to-handle monthly payments. If used in conjunction with student loans, you can also lower the student's total loan debt after graduation. This plan allows you the flexibility to pick a monthly payment amount that works within your budget.
- If the student has a third party sponsor who is paying for all or a portion of the bill, please ensure that all required documentation has been submitted on-time.
- To receive refunds quicker, complete the Title IV Authorization form. Also, create a refund profile in the Student Account eBill to receive refunds via direct deposit!
- Sign-up for Tuition Insurance. If your student withdrawals for a qualified reason, you could receive a refund of the semester's charges.
- If Financial Aid is part of your payment strategy, make sure that the student has finalized their financial aid and/or registration, otherwise their aid will not post. This tip can help avoid delays in receiving a refund, the assessment of late payment fees, finance charges, and prevent a financial hold on the student's account. Please review these important Financial Aid considerations and tips for further details.
Things to Remember
- Financial aid applications and monthly payment plan enrollment needs to be completed every academic year. Third party authorizations are the exception and must be completed each semester. Please keep in mind that the academic calendar is from September to August.
- Your student's GW Fixed Tuition rate is based on the semester and year the student started. The Fixed Tuition rate is guaranteed when a student is registered for 12-17 credits. Should your student enroll in additional credits, above 17, you will be billed at the per credit charge applicable for that academic year. Exceptions are Honors and Engineering students.
- Monitor your student's account to see if any adjustments to the student’s registration has resulted in additional charges, or an unexpected balance due.
- When your student studies abroad, the Office for Study Abroad is responsible for study abroad fees added too the student account. You will not see any billing related information until the OSA registers the student.
