Student Health Insurance Requirements

Starting with Academic Year 2023-2024 and each academic year thereafter, the university mandates that all students must have medical health insurance coverage while enrolled at GW. GW offers a comprehensive Student Health Insurance Plan (GW SHIP) through Aetna Student Health and all students–including graduate, law, medical and doctoral students–are automatically enrolled in GW SHIP. If you are already covered by a health insurance plan and want to continue using that plan instead of GW SHIP, you must submit a form to waive GW SHIP each year you are enrolled at GW.
