Tuition Insurance

A student’s academic success depends on their physical and mental health. At GW, we have multiple systems in place to support a student’s wellbeing, including our CARE Network and Colonial Health Center’s various services. However, unfortunately, sometimes a student may need to leave GW before the semester is completed. In many instances, this means not only the loss of time invested in studies but also, due to the current level of educational costs, a significant financial loss. We certainly hope this does not happen, but we know that it does occur and we want your family to be prepared.

To mitigate the financial impact of such an occurrence, the university offers the Tuition Refund Plan for your consideration. This annual plan, administered by A.W.G. Dewar, protects your educational investment by reimbursing up to 75% of tuition, room, and board in the event of a medical or mental health withdrawal. Please note that your financial aid award may affect refunded amounts. This annual plan significantly extends and enhances GW’s published refund policy as stated in the University Bulletin. You are assured of a refund throughout the term even after GW’s own refund policy has expired.

FAQ’s:

Q. How much does it cost?

A. The tuition insurance coverage cost varies based on your level and program: Undergraduate, Graduate, Law, or Med. The cost can also vary if you are receiving a scholarship from GW, which is not refundable under this program, and deduct this from your coverage amount.

Q. How do I sign up?

A. There are two options to sign up for tuition insurance coverage:

  1. Add on your tuition insurance coverage when you are paying your bill electronically in the Student Account eBill.
  2. Visit the Dewar’s website and sign up online.

Q. What is the deadline to sign up?

A. The deadline to sign up for coverage is the day prior to the start of a semester. For annual coverage, which can be obtained by signing up on the Dewar’s websites, the deadline is the day prior to the start of the Fall semester.
