Credit Card Payment FAQ

 Important Notes:

  • The George Washington University does not accept payments over the phone, by mail, in person, or via fax.
  • All credit card payments must be made online through eBill, using PayPath, a secure third-party service.
  • Every credit card payment will incur a non-refundable PayPath Payment Service Fee of 3.00% of the transaction amount if using a US credit card, 4.25% PayPath Payment Service fee is using an international credit card, or a $3.00 minimum PayPath Payment Service fee.
  • The non-refundable fee will be assessed by PayPath and will appear as a separate charge on your credit card statement. 
How do I use a credit card to make payments to my student account?
  • Log into Student Account eBill
  • Choose your credit card payment option:
    • Domestic credit card (carries a PayPath Payment Service Fee of 3.00% of the transaction amount or $3.00 minimum fee)
    • International credit card (carries PayPath Payment Service fee of 4.25% of the transaction amount or $3 minimum fee)
  • The non-refundable service fee will be assessed by PayPath and will appear as a separate charge on your credit card statement.
Are there any fees associated with the credit card payment option?
  • Yes. The university accepts credit card payments directly via the Student Account eBill solution. When making a payment using the credit card payment method, the user is also authorizing GW’s payment processor to charge a nonrefundable 3.00% (minimum $3) PayPath Payment Service fee for US credit cards or a 4.25% PayPath Payment Service fee for international credit card payments.
  • The  PayPath Service Fee is non-refundable, even if the student account payment to which it relates is canceled, refunded, credited, or charged back.
Why is a fee added for credit card payments?
  • The PayPath Service Fee covers the cost of processing credit card payments.
  • The PayPath service fee will appear as a separate charge on your credit card statement.
  • George Washington University does not receive any part of the service fee.
What payment methods can be used to avoid the PayPath service fee?
  • eCheck payments from checking and savings accounts submitted via Student Account eBill

What credit cards can I use to pay my Student Account charges?

What if I am due a refund, having paid with a credit card?
  • George Washington is required to refund any overpayments made by a credit card back to the credit card account used to make the payment.
  • The PayPath Service Fee is non-refundable
Can Payment Plan installments be scheduled using a credit card?
  • Yes. Credit cards can be used for scheduled payment plan installments.
Do other universities charge PayPath fees for credit card payments?
  • Yes. Many universities either charge a fee for credit card payments or don’t accept them at all. GW offers this option to give students and families flexibility.
What should I consider before making a decision to pay by credit card?
  • The PayPath Service Fee of 3.00% domestic, and 4.25% international, is a one-time charge on top of the payment amount that will be added to your credit card balance.
  • Review your credit card's terms, including interest rates and penalties.
  • Paying by eCheck is similar to using a debit card but doesn't include a service fee.
  • You may qualify for student loans with better terms than credit card debt. Contact Financial Aid for help.
  • Credit card payments are confirmed immediately, like wire transfers or cashier’s checks, and cannot be canceled.
Will my employer or sponsor be able to pay by credit card?
Am I able to use pre-paid or loaded cards?
  • Yes, as long as the card has enough funds to cover the the total payment amount (payment + PayPath Service Fee)
